E-commerce SaaS · Case study
Shoprocket: embeddable e-commerce, built to scale worldwide.
- 37,000+ sellers on the platform
- $425M+ in orders processed
- 4.8/5 on Trustpilot, across 196 countries
The challenge
Where they started.
Most e-commerce tools force merchants onto a hosted platform or a clunky iframe. Shoprocket's vision was different: let anyone add a full shopping cart and checkout to any website, blog or landing page with a single snippet of code - no platform lock-in, no iframe. Building that to work reliably across thousands of unfamiliar websites, handle dozens of payment methods, and scale globally is genuinely hard engineering.
Business goals
What success looked like.
- Let merchants add real e-commerce to any site in minutes, with no code
- Support many product types, payment methods, currencies and languages
- Scale reliably to tens of thousands of merchants and hundreds of millions in orders
The solution
What we built.
We designed and built Shoprocket from the ground up: an embeddable commerce platform that drops into any website with a copy-paste snippet - not an iframe - backed by a powerful platform that handles everything from inventory to global payments.
- A non-iframe embeddable cart and checkout that works on any website
- Physical, digital, service, licence-key, donation and subscription products
- 45+ payment methods via Stripe, PayPal, PayU and crypto, with 0% transaction fees
- One dashboard for products, orders, customers, inventory, tax and shipping
- Multi-currency and multi-language, selling across web, social and Google Shopping
- A public API and Zapier integration so merchants can extend it
Under the hood
How we built it to last.
The hard part of an embeddable platform is making one snippet behave perfectly across thousands of websites we'll never see, while keeping checkout fast and secure. We built a lightweight JavaScript embed backed by a Laravel API, with a Livewire and Alpine.js dashboard, on a multi-tenant architecture that isolates each merchant's store and data. Payments run through a provider-agnostic layer so merchants can use Stripe, PayPal, PayU or crypto with instant payouts and no transaction fees. The infrastructure on AWS scales with demand to keep checkout fast for merchants in 196 countries.
How we worked
A transparent build.
Shoprocket grew over several years of close collaboration. The first version proved the model - an embeddable cart and checkout built on CodeIgniter and vanilla JavaScript. As it scaled, we re-platformed onto a modern Laravel, Livewire, Alpine.js and Tailwind stack to iterate faster and build a richer merchant dashboard, then kept expanding product types, payment methods and sales channels as merchants asked for them. Working in tight cycles meant the platform evolved with real merchant needs, not guesses.
The results
What changed.
Today, Shoprocket powers e-commerce for merchants around the world:
- 37,000+ sellers use the platform
- Over $425 million in orders processed
- 444,000+ products sold across 196 countries
- Rated 4.8/5 on Trustpilot
- Trusted by freelancers, retailers, developers and international brands
What started as an idea is now a global e-commerce platform trusted by tens of thousands of merchants.
“I've had the pleasure of working with Indesh for several years across multiple projects, and I can confidently say he's one of the best developers I've worked with. His technical skills are exceptional, particularly in Laravel, APIs, SaaS platforms, and scalable backend systems. He consistently delivers high-quality work, communicates clearly, and always approaches challenges with professionalism and attention to detail. Beyond his technical ability, Indesh is reliable, trustworthy, responsive, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for a highly skilled and dependable developer.”
What we took from it
Lessons learned.
Building an embeddable product taught us to obsess over the edges: the snippet has to behave on websites we'll never see. Getting the API, the payment abstraction and multi-tenancy right early is what let Shoprocket scale to tens of thousands of merchants without a rewrite.
